CachyOS is a new-ish Linux distribution, first released in July 2021, that has rapidly gained popularity due to its focus on performance and responsiveness. Built on the Arch Linux base, CachyOS implements optimizations like its custom BORE scheduler, CLANG compiler, and advanced optimization flags to provide a fast, polished, and stable experience, especially for gaming and desktop users.

It currently tops DistroWatch’s popularity rankings. If you’re eyeing it for gaming or high-performance setups, it’s matured into a solid, user-friendly option rather than a fresh experiment.

archinstall – easily automates installation of Vanilla Arch Linux

I’ve installed Vanilla Arch Linux 4-6 ways over the years, and this is my second time using the archinstall method. It has improved over the past year, IMHO, and seemed to be a tad easier and more efficient this time.

About 51 pictures this time, so am going to try and let most of the pics ‘Speak for themselves’ by adding a brief “Caption” describing the step. It will be long, but I don’t want to break it up in parts.

Fedora 39 Cinnamon SPIN – Anaconda (installer) + NVIDIA + System Upgrade

Fedora 39 Cinnamon SPIN keeps getting faster & smoother with each release! I go with the Cinnamon SPIN because it is about as close to a Windows ‘Feel’ that the Linux desktop can get.

I’ve got at least 17 pics to insert, plus about 11 more that are linked to, and those are mostly on how to use the Anaconda (installer).

Also want to squeeze in how to add a NVIDIA driver, and a glimpse at adding other apps with the Fedora GUI Software Management – dnfdragora.

Then, doing a quick review of how to do a System Upgrade from Fedora 38 Cinnamon SPIN to Fedora 39 Cinnamon SPIN. That involves upgrading a converted 12.2” Samsung Chromebook Plus V2 XE521QAB from 38 to 39.

Lots to do, so let’s get started! 🙂👏

Porteus 5.0 Cinnamon – Part 6: Package Managers & Porteus Modules

This is the final part, Part 6, of the “Special July 2022 series” on the Porteus Linux page. The other parts are now – HERE. Had moved to this self-hosted KM&T blog last year, from the old Linux Newbie – Since 1996 blog, and have been transferring certain posts & info slowly to here. Requires some editing and moving the pics so it’s not the original ‘Flow’, and dated info can be confusing. Porteus 5.0 package managers work differently than other Linux distros but it’s great once you get it! 👍

Have been ‘gearing‘ the series towards MS Windows users, but still mindful of interested Linux users. Most everyone in the modern world now uses 2-4 OSes daily…their PC’s & phones for starters.

Primary, Secondary & ‘Companion‘ OSes

I believe Porteus 5.0 Cinnamon is a perfect fit for many Windows 10 and/or Windows 11 users, as their secondary OS and/or a ‘Companion‘ OS alongside their primary Windows 10 and/or Windows 11 OS.
