American psychological thrillers attract large audiences, and Zombie movies have a dedicated, enduring fanbase. Her decision reflects careful thought about her first film, debunking accusations of nepotism, in my opinion. Why choose a low-budget genre like Zombies if her father could have secured funding or pulled strings for a bigger-budget production?<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Privilege_Hard_Work\"><\/span>Privilege &amp; Hard Work<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>I don\u2019t usually review movies or pay attention to critics, but I\u2019m a pretty good judge of people. Here\u2019s a quote from Destry Spielberg in a Daily Mail <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/femail\/article-14861621\/steven-spielberg-daughter-film-critics-directorial-debut.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>article<\/b><\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>The young filmmaker owned up to her &#8216;privilege&#8217; but maintained that she &#8216;worked hard&#8217; to get where she is today.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;People can argue nepotism, but I know deep down that I worked hard to get where I am and it wasn&#8217;t easy. Beyond proud of the team it took to make it,&#8217; she added.<\/p>\n<p>She continued to &#8216;acknowledge&#8217; her privilege in a second post and spoke about introducing new talent into the industry.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;I acknowledge that I was born with privilege! I own that through and through!&#8217; she wrote.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;I make it my mission to bring new talent into the industry and give opportunities to artists of all backgrounds. That said, I loved \u2018The Shining\u2019 for its chilling atmosphere and Kubrick\u2019s genius, along with other standout psychological thrillers.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Misery\u2019 (1990) had a budget of $20 million\u2014about $49.2 million in today\u2019s dollars. I never liked it. Sure, it made money, but I found it slow, overhyped, and honestly kind of dull despite the critical praise.<\/p>\n<p>I enjoyed \u2018Please Don\u2019t Feed the Children\u2019 way more, especially considering the Destry Spielberg factor. Her debut, made on a tight budget of around $3\u20135 million, feels fresh and ambitious, with a tense story of orphans facing a deranged captor. It doesn\u2019t reach \u2018The Shining\u2019s\u2019 masterpiece status but, for me, matches or even outshines \u2018Misery\u2019 in energy and heart. Destry\u2019s choice to tackle a low-budget genre project, despite her privileged background, shows her drive to prove herself and uplift new talent, making her film stand out.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Conclusion\"><\/span>Conclusion<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>I\u2019m a 79-year-old white male, and I\u2019ll admit, Zombie movies and most American psychological thrillers aren\u2019t my thing\u2014yet Destry Spielberg\u2019s \u2018Please Don\u2019t Feed the Children\u2019 won me over. Her future as a director, and the exciting films she\u2019ll bring to moviegoers, looks incredibly bright\u2014not because she\u2019s Steven Spielberg\u2019s daughter, but because of the talent, thoughtful planning, and hard work she poured into her low-budget debut. By crafting a tense, ambitious thriller on a $3\u20135 million budget and casting fresh faces like Zoe Colletti, she\u2019s proven her skill and commitment to uplifting new talent.
