In <a href=\"https:\/\/karmismusingstech.com\/index.php\/2023\/06\/26\/porteus-5-0-cinnamon-part-1-refresh-of-old-review\/\"><i><b>Part 1<\/b><\/i><\/a> I mentioned two options for installing <a href=\"https:\/\/forum.porteus.org\/viewtopic.php?f=35&amp;p=88441&amp;sid=9595595f73e27ffe48b6a8d356f0f032#p88441\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>Porteus v5.0<\/b><\/a> onto a USB: <b>1)<\/b> using a fat32 formatted partition. <b>2)<\/b> using two partitions \u2013 a smaller fat32 formatted partition <u><b>plus<\/b><\/u> an ext4 formatted partition.<\/p>\n<p>As most Windows users know, formatting a USB drive is limited to a size of just 32 GBs max when using fat32, which is why fat32 formatting is generally found on the smaller USBs.<\/p>\n<p>In this &#8216;<em>Refresh<\/em>&#8216; of the original Part 2 in this <strong>Porteus 5.0 Cinnamon<\/strong> series, I am going to cover three Steps in creating various versions of the Porteus 5.0 Cinnamon OS \u2013 a &#8216;<em>Live<\/em>&#8216; version which will be used to create the other two versions (<em>or Steps<\/em>).<\/p>\n<p>Porteus Linux works great on a 32 GB USB&#8230;<i>heck<\/i>, the updated Porteus-CINNAMON-v5.0-x86_64.iso I <a href=\"http:\/\/porteus.org\/porteus-mirrors.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>downloaded<\/b><\/a> was just 359 MBs&#8230;1 MB smaller than the 360 MB one I got a few days before.<\/p>\n<p>No <b>*BLOAT*<\/b> on Porteus Linux! I&#8217;ve recently tested it on a 16 GB USB w\/ no problems &#8216;n plenty of room. I even formatted that 16 GB USB w\/ <b>Two Partitions<\/b> \u2013 a fat32 plus ext4 partitions.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Both NTFS &amp; Ext4 formats are a lot faster than Fat32. NTFS &amp; Ext4 formats can also work on bigger SSD &amp; NVMe drives.<\/p>\n<p>In Linux, fat32 partitions are mainly for EFI\/UEFI bootable partitions.<\/p>\n<p>Here is the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.porteus.org\/tutorials\/37-installing\/114-official-porteus-installation-guide-v-10.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>Official Porteus Installation Guide<\/b><\/a>, <em>which I have stopped using<\/em>, but had found it useful back when I first started testing Porteus. Their <a href=\"https:\/\/forum.porteus.org\/index.php?sid=f009b4373473c80be406f6c552e261d6\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>Forum<\/b><\/a> is probably the best source for quick and helpful information. The actual <a href=\"http:\/\/porteus.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>Porteus Home<\/b><\/a> page seems to run behind its Forum, but there is also helpful info, info about, pics, links, etc. there.<\/p>\n<p>Username for root is <b>root<\/b> and password is <b>toor<\/b>. Open the downloaded file, and copy those files onto the USB:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-2775 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/karmismusingstech.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/2a-open-ISO-n-USB.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"855\" height=\"722\" srcset=\"https:\/\/karmismusingstech.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/2a-open-ISO-n-USB.jpg 855w, https:\/\/karmismusingstech.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/2a-open-ISO-n-USB-500x422.jpg 500w, https:\/\/karmismusingstech.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/2a-open-ISO-n-USB-768x649.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 855px) 100vw, 855px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&#8230;then:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-2777 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/karmismusingstech.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/2b-copied-files-to-USB.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"865\" height=\"664\" srcset=\"https:\/\/karmismusingstech.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/2b-copied-files-to-USB.jpg 865w, https:\/\/karmismusingstech.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/2b-copied-files-to-USB-500x384.jpg 500w, https:\/\/karmismusingstech.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/2b-copied-files-to-USB-768x590.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 865px) 100vw, 865px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s it for the &#8216;<em>Live<\/em>&#8216; version.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Step_2_Porteus_50_on_a_Fat32_Ext4_USB\"><\/span>Step 2: Porteus 5.0 on a Fat32 &amp; Ext4 USB<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Using the new fat32 \u2018<i>Live<\/i>\u2018 Porteus 5.0 USB, <em>plus its <a href=\"https:\/\/gparted.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>GParted<\/strong><\/a> app<\/em>, we&#8217;re going to prep a 128 GB SanDisk Ultra Fit USB Target drive. You could use a SSD or different size USB as your Target drive, but make sure that the fat32 partition is <em>around<\/em> 350-360 MBs&#8230;that&#8217;s my recommendation and not the Official Porteus guide (<i>not sure what theirs is<\/i>?). Make the rest ext4. Like this:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-2823 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/karmismusingstech.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/3c-GParted-prep-of-128-GB.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"777\" height=\"536\" srcset=\"https:\/\/karmismusingstech.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/3c-GParted-prep-of-128-GB.jpg 777w, https:\/\/karmismusingstech.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/3c-GParted-prep-of-128-GB-500x345.jpg 500w, https:\/\/karmismusingstech.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/3c-GParted-prep-of-128-GB-768x530.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 777px) 100vw, 777px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Now we&#8217;re going to open the new fat32 \u2018<i>Live<\/i>\u2018 Porteus 5.0 USB. <em><u>Then in new windows<\/u><\/em>, we&#8217;re going to open the new 377 MB fat32 partition &amp; the new 123 GB ext4 partition of the 128 GB SanDisk Ultra Fit USB we just prepped. Like this:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-2824 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/karmismusingstech.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/3a-copy-folders-to-Targets.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1331\" height=\"903\" srcset=\"https:\/\/karmismusingstech.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/3a-copy-folders-to-Targets.jpg 1331w, https:\/\/karmismusingstech.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/3a-copy-folders-to-Targets-500x339.jpg 500w, https:\/\/karmismusingstech.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/3a-copy-folders-to-Targets-1024x695.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/karmismusingstech.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/3a-copy-folders-to-Targets-768x521.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1331px) 100vw, 1331px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;re going to be copying <i><u>and\/or<\/u><\/i> dragging &#8216;n dropping some important folders, so I try to get the windows set up for easy moving.<\/p>\n<p>Next, we&#8217;re going copy <i><u>and\/or<\/u><\/i> drag &#8216;n drop the <b>EFI<\/b> &amp; <b>boot<\/b> folders from the fat32 \u2018<i>Live<\/i>\u2018 Porteus 5.0 USB to the 377 MB fat32 partition we just created on the Target 128 GB USB. Then, we&#8217;re going to copy <i><u>and\/or<\/u><\/i> drag &#8216;n drop the <b>porteus<\/b> folder from the fat32 \u2018<i>Live<\/i>\u2018 Porteus 5.0 USB to the 123 GB ext4 partition we just created on the Target 128 GB USB. Like this:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-2827 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/karmismusingstech.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/3b-efi-boot-porteus-copied.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1330\" height=\"905\" srcset=\"https:\/\/karmismusingstech.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/3b-efi-boot-porteus-copied.jpg 1330w, https:\/\/karmismusingstech.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/3b-efi-boot-porteus-copied-500x340.jpg 500w, https:\/\/karmismusingstech.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/3b-efi-boot-porteus-copied-1024x697.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/karmismusingstech.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/3b-efi-boot-porteus-copied-768x523.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1330px) 100vw, 1330px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s it&#8230;we have now created a final installation of Porteus 5.0 on our Target drive, by using the EFI, boot, and porteus folders <b>that were located on the <\/b><b>fat32 \u2018<\/b><i><b>Live<\/b><\/i><b>\u2018 Porteus<\/b><b> 5.0<\/b><b> USB<\/b>.<\/p>\n<p>Porteus is extremely flexible for a Linux OS. \ud83d\udc4d\ud83d\udc4c\ud83d\ude42\ud83d\udc4f<\/p>\n<p>At this point, I shutdown the fat32 \u2018<i>Live<\/i>\u2018 Porteus 5.0 USB, and get ready to try the new Porteus 5.0 installation on Fat32 &amp; Ext4 partitions.<\/p>\n<h3><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Step_3_Porteus_50_on_a_Fat32_USB\"><\/span>Step 3: Porteus 5.0 on a Fat32 USB<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n<p>Refer to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.porteus.org\/tutorials\/37-installing\/114-official-porteus-installation-guide-v-10.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>Official Porteus Installation Guide<\/b><\/a> if needed.<\/p>\n<p>For Step 3 we will use the same &#8216;<em>Live<\/em>&#8216; USB created earlier, but will add a Saved.dat file that will save the settings, changes, etc. made when using Porteus on a fat32 partition.<\/p>\n<p>When booting into a newly installed fat32 Porteus OS you will see this \u2013 &#8216;<i>Changes are not saved<\/i>&#8216;:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-2817 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/karmismusingstech.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/port2a-port-save-file.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"402\" height=\"188\" srcset=\"https:\/\/karmismusingstech.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/port2a-port-save-file.jpg 402w, https:\/\/karmismusingstech.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/port2a-port-save-file-400x188.jpg 400w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 402px) 100vw, 402px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Porteus doesn\u2019t automatically save sessions, settings, etc. in the fat32 format so you need to create a savefile.dat container.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Porteus SaveFile Manager<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-2818 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/karmismusingstech.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/port2b-savefile-manager-500x387.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"387\" srcset=\"https:\/\/karmismusingstech.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/port2b-savefile-manager-500x387.jpg 500w, https:\/\/karmismusingstech.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/07\/port2b-savefile-manager.jpg 714w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The Porteus SaveFile Manager is under System.
