Most Windows 10 PCs can be upgraded for free to Windows 11\u2014those that can&#8217;t be upgraded still have almost 30-months left. <a href=\"https:\/\/support.microsoft.com\/en-us\/windows\/give-your-pc-a-fresh-start-0ef73740-b927-549b-b7c9-e6f2b48d275e#ID0EBD=Windows_10\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>Reset this PC<\/b><\/a> is a little different for Windows 10, but basically the same &#8216;<i>Steps<\/i>&#8216; wid slight differences in some terminology.<\/p>\n<p>This is the third part of &#8216;<i>Sorta a series<\/i>&#8216; on ways that Microsoft offers Windows users different options to refresh their PCs <i>and\/or<\/i> recover from various PC issues that can happen\u2014issues usually caused by the users <i>and\/or<\/i> an OEM software\/hardware issue.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>First part was \u2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/karmismusingstech.com\/index.php\/2023\/05\/05\/backup-and-restore-windows-7-a-utility-for-your-windows-10-or-11-pc\/\"><i><b>Backup and Restore (Windows 7) \u2013 a utility for your Windows 10 or 11 PC<\/b><\/i><\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Second part was \u2013 <a href=\"https:\/\/karmismusingstech.com\/index.php\/2023\/05\/06\/system-restore-creating-restore-points-and-restoring-your-windows-pc\/\"><i><b>System Restore, creating Restore Points, and restoring your Windows PC<\/b><\/i><\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I&#8217;ve built most of my own computers (&#8216;<a href=\"https:\/\/linuxnewbiesince1996.wordpress.com\/buy-low-or-byoc-build-your-own-computer-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><i><b>BYOC<\/b><\/i><\/a>&#8216;) &#8216;n haven&#8217;t had any issues wid them; <i>however<\/i>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dell.com\/support\/contents\/en-us\/article\/product-support\/self-support-knowledgebase\/software-and-downloads\/support-assist\/SupportAssist-for-Home\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">SupportAssist<\/a> on my <a href=\"https:\/\/linuxnewbiesince1996.wordpress.com\/buy-low-or-byoc-build-your-own-computer-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><i><b>Dell XPS 13<\/b><\/i><\/a> 9310 recently started acting up after some updates\u2014that also included BIOS &amp; Firmware upgrades.<\/p>\n<p>&#8216;<a href=\"https:\/\/linuxnewbiesince1996.wordpress.com\/2021\/10\/04\/laptops-new-dell-xps-13-9310-lappy-has-arrived-aka-xps13\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><i>XPS13<\/i><\/a>&#8216; is about 19-months old, but I still don&#8217;t want to do a lot of &#8216;<i>Experimenting<\/i>&#8216; on it just yet \u2013 <i><b>hey<\/b><\/i>, it&#8217;s my first purchased Dell <a href=\"https:\/\/www.urbandictionary.com\/define.php?term=lappie\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><i>lappie<\/i><\/a><b>!!! <\/b>\ud83d\ude0a After pondering the issue for a while, <u>during which time I decided to write this &#8216;<i>Sorta a series<\/i>&#8216;<\/u>, a <a href=\"https:\/\/support.microsoft.com\/en-us\/windows\/give-your-pc-a-fresh-start-0ef73740-b927-549b-b7c9-e6f2b48d275e#ID0EBD=Windows_11\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>Reset this PC<\/b><\/a> seemed the better solution:<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Resetting your PC lets you perform a clean <u><b>reinstallation and update<\/b><\/u> of Windows while <u><b>keeping your personal data<\/b><\/u> and most Windows settings intact. In some cases, a clean installation may improve your device&#8217;s performance, security, browsing experience, and battery life.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><i>B<\/i><i>asically<\/i>, a factory reset that also updates the Windows 11 OS <u><b>and<\/b><\/u> saves your DATA. #1 <a href=\"https:\/\/karmismusingstech.com\/index.php\/2023\/05\/05\/backup-and-restore-windows-7-a-utility-for-your-windows-10-or-11-pc\/\"><i><b>Backup and Restore (Windows 7)<\/b><\/i><\/a> might have missed something in the &#8216;<i>Cleaning<\/i>&#8216; of the OS, and #2 <a href=\"https:\/\/karmismusingstech.com\/index.php\/2023\/05\/06\/system-restore-creating-restore-points-and-restoring-your-windows-pc\/\"><i><b>System Restore<\/b><\/i><\/a> might have missed &#8216;<i>Cleaning<\/i>&#8216; the same thing.<\/p>\n<p><i>Normally<\/i>, I would&#8217;ve just deleted the software, or possibly done a restoring of a backup System Image or Restore Point\u2014then deleted the software. <i>However<\/i>, the Dell <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dell.com\/support\/contents\/en-us\/article\/product-support\/self-support-knowledgebase\/software-and-downloads\/support-assist\/SupportAssist-for-Home\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">SupportAssist<\/a> has been a very useful app in keeping the lappie 100% updated\u2014including BIOS &amp; Installing went fairly quickly, and then it rebooted into the newly Reset this PC&#8217;s desktop.<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Conclusion\"><\/span>Conclusion<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The Dell <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dell.com\/support\/contents\/en-us\/article\/product-support\/self-support-knowledgebase\/software-and-downloads\/support-assist\/SupportAssist-for-Home\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">SupportAssist<\/a> was working right again \u2013 <b>\\o\/ \u2018<\/b><i><b>Hippity hip Hoorah<\/b><\/i><b>\u2018 \\o\/ <\/b>\ud83d\udc4f\ud83d\udc4d\ud83d\ude01\ud83d\udc4c<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-2477 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/karmismusingstech.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/SupportAssist-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"729\" height=\"360\" srcset=\"https:\/\/karmismusingstech.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/SupportAssist-1.jpg 729w, https:\/\/karmismusingstech.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/SupportAssist-1-500x247.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 729px) 100vw, 729px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Some settings are going to need to be reset or added again. Some apps are going to need to be removed again.<\/p>\n<p>Here is the list of apps that were &#8216;<i>removed while resetting your PC<\/i>&#8216;:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-2479 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/karmismusingstech.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/1cb-removed-apps-245x500.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"245\" height=\"500\" srcset=\"https:\/\/karmismusingstech.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/1cb-removed-apps-245x500.jpg 245w, https:\/\/karmismusingstech.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/05\/1cb-removed-apps.jpg 435w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 245px) 100vw, 245px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Looks like all the drivers for Dell&#8217;s hardware got updated when I ran <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dell.com\/support\/contents\/en-us\/article\/product-support\/self-support-knowledgebase\/software-and-downloads\/support-assist\/SupportAssist-for-Home\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">SupportAssist<\/a>, but I&#8217;m going to have to do some reinstalling of software &#8216;n apps &#8216;n &#8216;<i>Stuff<\/i>&#8216;.<\/p>\n<p>Everything seems to be working great, so I am extremely pleased wid the <b>Reset this PC<\/b>&#8216;s results! I have never used the <b>Reset this PC<\/b> method, but do recall using something similar <i><u>years &#8216;n years<\/u><\/i> ago that I wasn&#8217;t happy wid. \ud83e\udd14<\/p>\n<p>I would think that people who buy OEM PCs would probably use <b>#2<\/b> System Restore &amp; <b>#3<\/b> Reset this PC more often than I ever have\u2014since I have built most of my own.<\/p>\n<p><em>Speaking of<\/em> &#8216;<a href=\"https:\/\/linuxnewbiesince1996.wordpress.com\/buy-low-or-byoc-build-your-own-computer-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><i><b>BYOC<\/b><\/i><\/a>&#8216;, I have been planning on building a new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.intel.com\/content\/www\/us\/en\/products\/sku\/230496\/intel-core-i913900k-processor-36m-cache-up-to-5-80-ghz\/specifications.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Intel\u00ae Core\u2122 i9-13900K<\/a> desktop PC \u2013 using the &#8216;<a href=\"https:\/\/linuxnewbiesince1996.wordpress.com\/buy-low-or-byoc-build-your-own-computer-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><i><b>Apevia<\/b><\/i><\/a>&#8216; case &#8216;n it&#8217;s 32GB of PNY DDR4 memory \u2013 and purchasing a new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/dp\/B0BHXSR2C5?tag=pcpapi-20&amp;linkCode=ogi&amp;th=1&amp;psc=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>Asus PRIME Z790M-PLUS<\/b><\/a> D4 Micro ATX LGA1700 motherboard.<\/p>\n<p>Still in the planning stages, but I can move sudden when the money is there, and it almost is. \ud83d\ude01 <em>Actually<\/em>, the money is already there if I used the same MSI GeForce GTX 1660 SUPER\u2122 GPU that is now in &#8216;<i>Apevia<\/i>&#8216;, but I would like to move that Intel\u00ae i9-10900K CPU &amp; MoBo as intact as possible into the &#8216;<i>Rose<\/i>&#8216; main Test computer\u2014minus the 32 GB of memory. &#8216;<i>Rose<\/i>&#8216; has 16 GB of memory on its setup now, that will work on the old &#8216;<i>Apevia<\/i>&#8216; MoBo.<\/p>\n<p>Takes a lot of planning in order to build computers that can share hardware in future upgrades, but it also reduces the price on building\/upgrading a &#8216;<em>New<\/em>&#8216; desktop computer, IMHO. \ud83d\ude42 <a href=\"https:\/\/pcpartpicker.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>PC Part Picker<\/strong><\/a> is one of my favorite sites for planning a build or upgrade\u2014quite a few other sites also offer such help, i.e., letting you know what parts are compatible wid each other.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Windows 10 Home &amp; Pro reach end of support on 10\/14\/2025 so I won&#8217;t go into how to reset those PCs.
