This post is Part 1 &#8216;n will be on the <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.fedoraproject.org\/en-US\/quick-docs\/dnf-system-upgrade\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">System Upgrades<\/a> I have just done \u2014 two upgrades from Fedora 37 &#8216;n one upgrade from Fedora 36. <a href=\"https:\/\/karmismusingstech.com\/index.php\/2023\/04\/22\/fedora-linux-38-cinnamon-spin-part-2-clean-install-of-38\/#more-2228\"><strong>Part 2<\/strong><\/a> will be doing a clean installation using the <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.fedoraproject.org\/en-US\/quick-docs\/anaconda\/anaconda\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Anaconda<\/a> installer.<\/p>\n<p>Fedora Linux makes a great portable OS &#8216;n I have it install on two USBs \u2014 a 64 GB SanDisk Ultra for its portability &amp; a 64 GB SanDisk Ultra Fit that stays plugged into a switched <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Sabrent-Individual-Switches-Adapter-HB-BUP7\/dp\/B079GT1ZVS\/ref=sr_1_1?crid=N9IR5DTGM1VC&amp;keywords=sabrent%2Bswitched%2Busb%2B7%2Bport%2Bhub&amp;qid=1682017721&amp;s=electronics&amp;sprefix=sabrent%2Bswitched%2Busb%2B7%2Bport%2Bhub%2Celectronics%2C388&amp;sr=1-1&amp;th=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">SABRENT 7 Port<\/a> USB 3.0 Hub. The 7 port hub holds two other Linux Distros that I use &#8216;n test at various times on my &#8216;<a href=\"https:\/\/linuxnewbiesince1996.wordpress.com\/buy-low-or-byoc-build-your-own-computer-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><i><b>Rose<\/b><\/i><\/a>&#8216; main Test Machine. Both of those are now upgraded to Fedora 38. I believe for older versions it involves more steps, e.g., if I had Fedora 35 then I should upgrade to either 36 or 37 before upgrading to 38. One test yesterday wid a Fedora 36 upgrade to 38 caused issues wid the Nvidia driver, so from now on I will upgrade to newer releases from just <b>1 previous release<\/b> if I have a Nvidia driver involved, <i><u>and maybe using<\/u><\/i> the <b>1 previous release<\/b> method to upgrade is the wiser option. \ud83e\udd1e\ud83e\udd14\ud83d\udc4d\ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p>If you are upgrading a Fedora Workstation (GNOME) or from Silverblue then read this first: <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.fedoraproject.org\/en-US\/quick-docs\/upgrading\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>Upgrading to a new release of Fedora<\/b><\/a>. The method I&#8217;m using is for the Fedora <a href=\"https:\/\/spins.fedoraproject.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>SPINS<\/b><\/a> \u2014 it requires using the terminal &#8216;n the command-line.<\/p>\n<p>The pics I will be using <i>mainly<\/i> follow the <a href=\"https:\/\/docs.fedoraproject.org\/en-US\/quick-docs\/dnf-system-upgrade\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>DNF System Upgrade<\/b><\/a> command-line&#8217;s that are listed; <i>however<\/i>, I run the upgrades as a <a href=\"https:\/\/linuxnewbiesince1996.wordpress.com\/2020\/10\/21\/how-to-become-a-fulltime-linux-root-user\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><i><b>Root User<\/b><\/i><\/a> so I don&#8217;t use &#8220;<b>sudo<\/b>&#8221; in my command-lines, but you can if you are not root. They can vary a tad, so I may show two options that were used between the 64 GB SanDisk Ultra USB &amp; the <a href=\"https:\/\/linuxnewbiesince1996.wordpress.com\/2021\/06\/18\/how-to-turn-a-314-57-chromebook-into-a-fedora-linux-laptop-tablet-sketchbook-chromebook-series-part-5\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><i><b>Laptop\/Tablet\/Sketchbook<\/b><\/i><\/a> \u2014 &#8216;<a href=\"https:\/\/linuxnewbiesince1996.wordpress.com\/buy-low-or-byoc-build-your-own-computer-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><i><b>Sam<\/b><\/i><\/a>&#8216; system upgrades. Here is the list I used:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>1) dnf update<\/li>\n<li>2) dnf upgrade &#8211;refresh (<span style=\"color: #c9211e;\"><b>NOTE<\/b><\/span><span style=\"color: #c9211e;\">: a dash dash before refresh<\/span>)<\/li>\n<li>3) dnf install dnf-plugin-system-upgrade<\/li>\n<li>4a USB) dnf system-upgrade download &#8211;releasever=38 (<span style=\"color: #c9211e;\"><b>NOTE<\/b><\/span><span style=\"color: #c9211e;\">: a dash dash before releasever<\/span>)<\/li>\n<li>4b &#8216;<i>Sam<\/i>&#8216;) dnf system-upgrade download &#8211;releasever=38 &#8211;allowerasing (<span style=\"color: #c9211e;\"><b>NOTE<\/b><\/span><span style=\"color: #c9211e;\">: a dash dash before releasever &amp; allowerasing<\/span>)<\/li>\n<li>5) dnf system-upgrade reboot<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Step 4b &#8216;<i>Sam<\/i>&#8216; required my adding the &#8220;<b>&#8211;allowerasing<\/b>&#8221; to the command-line for the upgrade to proceed, which meant having to download it all again, so make sure you&#8217;re doing the upgrade during the best time for your internet connection. \ud83d\ude42 <i>Also<\/i>, I can never get WordPress to show the dash dash right (<i>AKA <\/i><i> hyphen<\/i><i> hyphen<\/i>) in my posts!? it said something was wrong (<i><u><b>after<\/b><\/u><\/i><i> the downloading completed!?!<\/i>), and suggested I try adding <b>&#8211;allowerasing<\/b> to the <b>dnf system-upgrade download <\/b><b>&#8212;<\/b><b>releasever=3<\/b><b>8<\/b> command-line.<\/p>\n<p>If all looked OK \u2014 Then:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-2190 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/karmismusingstech.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/2h-reboot.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"656\" height=\"442\" srcset=\"https:\/\/karmismusingstech.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/2h-reboot.jpg 656w, https:\/\/karmismusingstech.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/04\/2h-reboot-500x337.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 656px) 100vw, 656px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Enter <b>dnf system-upgrade reboot<\/b> &#8216;n it will finish the System Upgrade process, which takes some time.<\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s it!<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"USB_%E2%80%98Before_After%E2%80%98\"><\/span>USB &#8216;<i>Before &amp; Fedora Cinnamon SPIN are my <a href=\"https:\/\/linuxnewbiesince1996.wordpress.com\/karmis-top-10-linux-distros-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">main Linux Distros<\/a> now\u2014tho I also have Sparky Linux Cinnamon &amp;
