Mostly all are companies <b>*<\/b><u><b>HATED<\/b><\/u><b>*<\/b> by the <i>radical &#8216;n <\/i><i><u><b>vocal<\/b><\/u><\/i> Linux regular users. Regular users are what Linus Torvalds calls &#8216;<a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/Pzl1B7nB9Kc\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><i>normal people<\/i><\/a>&#8216;, and says Linux isn&#8217;t made for them to use, i.e., it&#8217;s mainly made for \u2018<i>Technical people&#8217;<\/i><i> <\/i>such as Developers, Programmers, Sysadmins, IT Specialists, Maintainers, etc. Regular users are mainly the <i>guinea pigs<\/i> who test Linux desktops for free\u2014<i>without realizing it<\/i>. \ud83d\ude09<\/p>\n<p>Many of the regular Linux users are beyond being just &#8216;<i>Fanatics<\/i>&#8216; so I enjoy clowning around wid &#8216;n about them \ud83e\udd21. Heck, Linux has never even mastered the &#8216;<a href=\"https:\/\/linuxnewbiesince1996.wordpress.com\/2019\/07\/26\/linux-and-the-basic-wheel-mouse\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><i><b>basic Wheel Mouse<\/b><\/i><\/a>&#8216;:<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-1856 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/karmismusingstech.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/Mouse-3z-500x247.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"500\" height=\"247\" srcset=\"https:\/\/karmismusingstech.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/Mouse-3z-500x247.jpg 500w, https:\/\/karmismusingstech.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/Mouse-3z.jpg 522w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Many regular Linux users are shocked when I tell them about what the mouse can&#8217;t do in Linux. \ud83e\udd21 They thought that &#8216;<i>Point &amp; Click<\/i>&#8216; was all a mouse was made to do. Developers, Programmers, Sysadmins, IT Specialists, Maintainers, etc. use the keyboard mostly\u2014<i>hence<\/i> Linux being a &#8216;<a href=\"https:\/\/endeavouros.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><i><b>A terminal-centric<\/b><\/i><\/a>&#8216; OS.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>OK, enough bashing of regular Linux <span style=\"text-decoration: line-through;\"><i>guinea pigs<\/i><\/span> users.<\/strong> \ud83d\ude48\ud83d\ude49\ud83d\ude4a<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.theregister.com\/Author\/Steven-J-Vaughan-Nichols\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Steven J. Vaughan-Nichols<\/a> has a great article out at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theregister.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Register<\/a> \u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theregister.com\/2023\/02\/24\/who_writes_open_source\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Who writes Linux and open source software<\/strong>?<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><b>Developers and, more to the point, the companies that employ them<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Even now, I run into those who think Linux and open source software is made by people living in their parents&#8217; basement and writing the code out of the goodness of their hearts. Wrong. So, so wrong.<\/p>\n<p>Yes, even now, some people write open source code to scratch an itch or just because they enjoy it. But if you look closely, you&#8217;ll find that the vast majority of today&#8217;s open source programmers do it for the same reason you do your job: money.<\/p>\n<p><i>Snip<\/i> .. Aiven, an open source cloud data platform company, recently analyzed who&#8217;s doing what with <a href=\"https:\/\/github.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>GitHub<\/b><\/a> open source code projects. They found that the top open source contributors were all companies \u2013 Amazon Web Services, Intel, Red Hat, Google, and Microsoft.<\/p>\n<p>Microsoft!!? Yes, Microsoft. I know, I know, you&#8217;ve been raised up to spit at the very name, and many of you still continue to think Microsoft is the Evil Empire.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>(<span style=\"color: #c9211e;\">Microsoft also owns <a href=\"https:\/\/techcrunch.com\/2022\/10\/26\/four-years-after-being-acquired-by-microsoft-github-keeps-doing-its-thing\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">GitHub<\/a> &#8216;n has done a great job wid it!<\/span>)<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Folks, Bill Gates and Steve Ballmer, neither of whom had any love for open source or Linux, haven&#8217;t been calling the shots at Microsoft for almost a decade. This is not your dad&#8217;s Microsoft. In short, <u><b>get over it<\/b><\/u>.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Steven J. Vaughan-Nichols gives some great info in this <b>MUST READ<\/b> article!
