When you think of an operating system for gaming, Linux isn\u2019t the first name that normal people<\/a><\/em> think of. Beyond that, I know basically nothing about the Gaming Industry \u2018n Games\u2026well<\/em>, I also know that Gamers have been a major driving force behind computer Technology growth for decades.<\/p>\n

However, I have a Special *PURPOSE* Linuxes<\/a><\/em><\/strong> series going on right now, that is focused on showing the \u2018Specialized<\/em>\u2019 OS options available wid Linux \u2018n Linuxes, to Windows 10 & Windows 11 users. Here\u2019s another \u2018Specialized<\/em>\u2019 Linux OS that actual Gamers may be interested in \u2013 Build your own Steam Machine<\/a><\/strong>:<\/p>\n

SteamOS<\/a><\/strong> has some positive aspects \u2018n some negative aspects, but it appears to be an excellent put together package. Mainly for games, but includes a GNOME desktop.<\/p>\n

SteamOS boots into the main gaming OS section, without needing a login password<\/u><\/strong>, but when the user moves to the SteamOS Desktop it starts wanting a password. Here\u2019s the Desktop pic:<\/p>\n

Like I said earlier, it is an excellent put together package. The two red highlighted areas allow the user to easily switch between the \u201cDesktop mode\u201d (on right<\/em>) \u00a0and the actual Steam gaming section (on left<\/em>).<\/p>\n

It is an easy install tho\u2026interesting \u2018n well done installer! Download<\/a><\/strong> the SteamOSInstaller.zip, then just Unzip<\/a><\/strong> it to a blank, FAT32-formatted USB stick. Here\u2019s the automated method:<\/p>\n

It wants a large disk for installing to, in the hardware requirements:<\/p>\n

I\u2019ve seen requirements for 200GB to even 250GB disks.<\/p>\n

It will do the entire installation process automatically, if you allow it to.<\/p>\n

Oh, before I forget make sure you join Steam<\/a><\/strong> before trying to install the SteamOS! What a pain it was, doing the joining whilst installed already!?\u00a0 \ud83d\ude33<\/p>\n

Follow the \u201cSteam website\u201d link, then select the \u201cJoin Steam\u201d on bottom right. Not sure what the \u201cSteam client\u201d link does, but looked like it would\u2019ve installed it to my WIN 10 Pro with that link.<\/p>\n

It was easy and fast considering all that was being done automatically. Here\u2019s the GNOME Desktop info:<\/p>\n

I tried to change the GNOME DE to a Dash to Panel look, and then tried to install the cinnamon desktop, but neither worked for me. Windows 8 & Windows 10 & future Windows 11 Gamers probably know more about working with Steam than I do, and could\u2019ve customized it all more than my failed attempts. Impressive Total gaming package, from installation to final results. What Is the Best OS For Gaming?<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n
